"Alima, a Syrian refugee living in Turkey, was 14 years old when her parents told her that she had to leave school. Her father said taht because she would beocme nothing more than someone's wife, her education was "a waste of time."

But Alima had other plans for her future. After hearing about the Research Centre on Asylum and Migration (IGAM), a local organization that helps refugee girls go to school, she reached out to see if they could intervene.

With support from Malala Fund, IGAM representatives meet with parents to help them understand that education - not early marriage - is the best path for their daughters.

After many conservations with IGAM, Alima's parents realised the benefits of sending her to school, as well as the physical and psychological risks of early marriage.

Although a suitor has now asked twice for Alima's hand in marriage, her parents have refused him both times. Alima is back in school and pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher."
